Since its launch in 2016, DiEM25 has continued to grow in all countries in Europe. In Belgium, a National Collective was elected at the end of 2017, and set to work at the beginning of 2018.
During 2018, we decided to attempt to present a French-speaking citizens’ list and a Dutch-speaking citizens’ list for the European elections. The complexity of the procedure in Belgium, coupled with too few active members, meant that we were unfortunately unable to collect the required 5 000 signatures for each of the two lists. In the run-up to the European elections , we therefore redirected our efforts to supporting lists presented by our French and Greek friends.
After a period of reflection on the European election campaign, we have been meeting every other Tuesday for several weeks to identify new objectives for our movement in Belgium. We are now preparing to participate in several events from September. We are also organising our General Assembly for Saturday 28th September, which will include a focus on the procedures for renewing our National Collective, whose mandate is coming to an end.
We are also preparing to actively participate in the launch of the Green New Deal for Europe campaign in Belgium.
To succeed in these activities and in the new objectives we identify collectively, we need your support!
We are all volunteers, and while our members pay a small membership fee, it’s not enough to cover our operating costs—meeting rooms, printing, etc.
