What is to become of you, Europe?

The Event

The UK is out. Or not quite yet? The destructive forces acting on European unification are manifold: from
Hungarian-style "illiberal democracies" to the governments of Italy and Poland ranting about the "Brussels
dictatorship" to the AfD and other right-wing nationalists who, while striving for seats in the European
Parliament, at the same time would like to abolish the EU in its current form.
The defence of the European project seems to be almost entirely in the hands of neoliberal politicians such
as France's President Macron – even in Germany, the country that benefits most from the single market
and European cooperation, there is little heard of visionary ideas for the continent.
However, there are also progressive responses. In addition to initiatives like "Pulse of Europe," which
brought a positive reference to Europe into the public domain, demands for “A Green New Deal", transnational
lists, a rejection of nationalism from left and right as well as a constitutional assembly for a new
foundation of the European Union are becoming louder.... These and other progressive reforms can be
found in the programme of the transnational alliance "European Spring," which is running for the European
elections in Germany under the name "Democracy in Europe." One of the candidates, Joanna Bronowicka,
a Polish sociologist living in Berlin, discusses that evening with Schams El Ghoneimi, a French-Egyptian Brexit
adviser at the European Parliament and the audience.
Moderated and invited by the Bonn group of Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25).
The event will be held in German and English. Admission free, donations welcome.
