Ireland Collectives online meeting for members 16th October at 7pm

The Event

We are arranging an online zoom meeting of some of the active and engaged members of our two DiEM25 Collectives in Ireland on Monday 16th October at 7pm (GMT). The main purpose of the meeting would be to explore how we can develop the ongoing work of the Collectives  over the next couple of years until 2025. Over the coming months we are aiming to establish a basic programme as follows;

Part 1, Oct 2023 to March 2024 - try to generate more awareness and interest in our DiEM25 vision and perspective, and specifically how it could be relevant to people in Ireland

Part 2, March to June 2024 - engagement with the European and Local Elections in Ireland

Part 3, July 2024 to May 2025 - our response to and engagement with the potential for a more progressive government in the Republic governed area following the General Election due to be held early 2025?

Our first meeting will focus on the Part 1 of this basic programme :

Writing articles for the DiEM25 website

The DiEM25 Communications Team always welcomes articles written by individual DiEM25 members and Collectives on topics relevant to the DiEM25 vision and perspectives. The topics we've been covering so far include the impact of the housing crisis with rising rents and the lack of affordable homes; the campaigns for peace in opposition to the proliferation of warmongering, especially in relation to Ireland's neutrality and non-alignment with military blocs.

Should we expand on these, and also include other items such as advancing democracy and dealing with the topical question of a 'border poll' for a re-united Ireland? Other topics could also be taken up to include 'environmental matters', such as the ongoing pollution of our rivers and lakes, and the fight being waged by our communities to stop toxic mining. Also, the continuing cost of living crisis is still of concern to people.

Please see links below for articles published to date *

A People's / Community Reporters project?

With this 'project' we might aim to encourage and facilitate DiEM25 members and supporters throughout Ireland to provide information and photos on issues and events impacting on people and places in their local communities or workplaces. Would this have some potential to draw in more people to engage with our activities and efforts?

The DiEM25 Ireland Forum could be one outlet for this

An Email Newsletter to Ireland members?

Develop a regular update Newsletter to all the members throughout the country. There is a DiEM25 facility, which we've successfully used before. The Newsletter (possibly called 'Notes from the North West') could contain brief outlines and links to what's happening relating to the concerns we are actually or proposing to take up. This would mean we have an ongoing channel of direct communication with our members here.

Social media for DiEM25 in Ireland

Currently we are active with DiEM25 in Ireland, and GNDE Ireland Facebook pages. Should we add more and be active on more social media outlets?

All aspects of the programme Part 1 outlined should be viewed as inter-connected, and complementary to each aspect, and could contribute to the development of other programmes to create more awareness, interest and engagement of people in the aims and ambitions of DiEM25.

If you would like to attend this online zoom meeting, please email us at: info@ie.diem25.org.

We are hoping to establish a regular meeting, possibly at least every month.
