ΣΤΟΝ ΚΑΘΡΕΦΤΗ ΤΗΣ ΠΑΛΑΙΣΤΙΝΗΣ”

Την Τρίτη 29 Νοεμβρίου, Διεθνή Ημέρα Αλληλεγγύης στον Παλαιστινιακό Λαό, το Κέντρο Μετακαπιταλιστικού Πολιτισμού (mέta) διοργανώνει στον κινηματογράφο Τριανόν” (Κοδριγκτώνος 21, Αθήνα 104 34) μονοήμερο κινηματογραφικό φεστιβάλ υπό τον τίτλο “Στον καθρέφτη της Παλαιστίνης: Εικόνες και ήχοι μιας καθημερινής μάχης για αξιοπρέπεια και ελευθερία”.

Πρόκειται για την δεύτερη κατά σειρά χρονιά που το mέta τιμά, με οδηγό το καλλιτεχνικό έργο Παλαιστινίων δημιουργών, τους αγώνες του παλαιστινιακού λαού, τους οποίους κρίνει, σε πείσμα των όσων ισχυρίζεται ο κυρίαρχος λόγος, ως κεντρικής σημασίας για κάθε προσπάθεια διαμόρφωσης μιας δικαιότερης κοινωνίας στη γειτονιά μας και διεθνώς.

Θα προβληθούν οι ταινίες Taqi (2021, 35') της Aleen Shoufani, Son of the Streets του Mohammed Almughanni (2020, 32') και Inside the Battle for Jesusalem (2021, 20') του Vice News. Οι δημιουργοί θα συμμετέχουν με βιντεοσκοπημένα μηνύματα, ενώ χαιρετισμό θα απευθύνoυν η Σοφία Σακοράφα, βουλεύτρια ΜέΡΑ25, αντιπρόεδρος της Βουλής των Ελλήνων και επίτιμη Παλαιστίνια πολίτης, καθώς και ο πρώην πρεσβευτής της Παλαιστίνης στην Αθήνα Marwan Tοubassi.

Θα ακολουθήσει συζήτηση με θέμα “Η σημασία της αλληλεγγύης στον Παλαιστινιακό Λαό στο πλαίσιο της παγκόσμιας κρίσης” με ομιλητές την Ιταλίδα ακτιβίστρια Luisa Morgantini και τον Γιάνη Βαρουφάκη (γραμματέα ΜέΡΑ25, συνιδρυτή DiEM25).

H Luisa Morgantini υπήρξε για δύο θητείες (1999-2009) μέλος του Ευρωκοινοβουλίου για το ιταλικό κόμμα Rifondazione Communista. Αποτελεί προσωπικότητα με αγώνες δεκαετιών στο ειρηνιστικό, το γυναικείο και το συνδικαλιστικό κίνημα, καθώς και με δράσεις αλληλεγγύης σε όλο τον κόσμο, ιδίως στην Παλαιστίνη και τη Μεσόγειο. Ηγείται του ιταλικού τμήματος της αντιπολεμικής οργάνωσης Women in Black.

Προβλέπεται υποτιτλισμός των ταινιών και διερμηνεία της συζήτησης.

- Taqi (2021, 35’) της Aleen Shoufani

Η ταινία πραγματεύεται την ιστορία του Taqi Sabateen, γνωστού Παλαιστίνιου καλλιτέχνη γκράφιτι από τη Δυτική Όχθη του Ιορδάνη, ο οποίος εκφράζει την απογοήτευσή του απέναντι στην κατοχή, τα σημεία ελέγχου, το διαχωριστικό τείχος, και χρησιμοποιεί την τέχνη του και προσωπικές ιστορίες της ζωής του ως εργαλείο αντίστασης.

Η Aleen Shoufani είναι κινηματογραφίστρια γεννημένη στην Χάιφα. Σπούδασε κινηματογράφο και τηλεόραση στο πανεπιστήμιο του Τελ Αβίβ (2019-2020). Εργάστηκε ως νοσηλεύτρια. Συμμετείχε σε διάφορες παραγωγές ως σπουδάστρια. Η πρώτη της ταινία, το ντοκιμαντέρ μικρού μήκους “Taqi”, δημιουργήθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια των πανεπιστημιακών κινηματογραφικών σπουδών της με δικά της έξοδα και βραβεύθηκε στο Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου της Στοκχόλμης, στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Boden, στο Vienna Films Awards, στο Prisma Film της Ρώμης, στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Ταγκόρ και στα Βραβεία Κινηματογράφου Νάπολης.

- “Son Of The Streets (2020, 34’) του Mohammed Almughanni

Ο Khodor είναι ένα παιδί 13 ετών, του οποίου η οικογένεια προσπαθεί να του εκδώσει έγγραφο ταυτότητας που να αποδεικνύει την ύπαρξή του και να του δίνει το δικαίωμα στην εκπαίδευση, την υγειονομική περίθαλψη και τη μετακίνηση εκτός του παλαιστινιακού προσφυγικού καταυλισμού της Shatila στη Βηρυτό του Λιβάνου. Κατά τη διάρκεια της διαδικασίας αποκαλύπτονται πολλά από τα παλιά μυστικά της οικογένειας.

Ο σκηνοθέτης, σεναριογράφος και κινηματογραφιστής Mohammed Almughanni γεννήθηκε το 1994 στη Γάζα. Απέκτησε το πτυχίο και το μεταπτυχιακό του στη σκηνοθεσία κινηματογράφου στη Σχολή Κινηματογράφου του Łódź στην Πολωνία, που ανέλαβε και την παραγωγή του “Son of the Streets”. Τα τελευταία χρόνια γύρισε ταινίες σε διάφορες περιοχές του κόσμου, όπως η Κούβα, η Παλαιστίνη, η Δανία, η Κίνα, η Ιορδανία, ο Λίβανος, η Πολωνία και η Γερμανία. Είναι δημιουργός ντοκιμαντέρ και αφηγηματικών ταινιών, μεταξύ των οποίων οι ταινίες “Blacklisted” (2021), “Son Of The Streets” (2020), “Falafala” (2019), “Operation” (2018), “Where's the Donkey” (2018), “Shujayya” (2015), και “Halawan” (2012). Ντοκιμαντέρ on the ground του Παλαιστίνιου φωτογράφου Ayman Abu Ramuz και του Νοτιοαφρικανού φωτογράφου Dan Bitman για λογαριασμό του Vice News στην κατεχόμενη Ανατολική Ιερουσαλήμ.

Η ανταποκρίτρια Hind Hassan μιλά με κατοίκους που καταφεύγουν σε δικαστικούς αγώνες και διαδηλώνουν, ενώ ταυτόχρονα αντιμετωπίζουν επιθέσεις από τις ισραηλινές κατοχικές δυνάμεις, συλλήψεις, κατ' οίκον έρευνες, ξυλοδαρμούς και απόπειρες κατάληψης από εποίκους.

Το Inside the Battle for Jerusalem κέρδισε δύο βραβεία EMMY (Καλύτερης Φωτογραφίας και Καλύτερης Ειδησεογραφικής Κάλυψης).

On Tuesday 29 November, on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, mέta | the Centre for Postcapitalist Civilisation organises a one-day film festival titled "In the Mirror of Palestine: Images and sounds of a quotidian struggle for dignity and freedom".

This is the second year in a row that the m
έta, guided by the artistic work of Palestinian filmmakers, has honoured the struggles of the Palestinian people, which it considers to be central to any effort to shape a more just society in our neighbourhood and internationally, despite what the dominant discourse claims.

Aleen Shoufani's 'Taqi' (2021, 35'), Mohammed Almughanni's 'Son of the Streets' (2020, 34') and Vice News' 'Inside the Battle for Jesusalem' (2021, 20') will be screened. The filmmakers will participate with video messages, while Sofia Sakorafa, MP with MeRA25, Deputy Speaker of the Greek Parliament and honorary Palestinian citizen will address the audience, the chair of m
έta’s Steering Committee Danai Stratou, as well as the former Palestinian Ambassador in Athens Marwan Toubassi.

A discussion will follow on "The importance of solidarity with the Palestinian people in the context of the global crisis" with Italian activist Luisa Morgantini and Yanis Varoufakis MP (secretary of MeRA25, co-founder of DiEM25) as speakers.

Luisa Morgantini was for two terms (1999-2009) a member of the European Parliament for the Italian party Rifondazione Communista. She is a figure with decades of struggles in the pacifist, women's and trade union movements, as well as solidarity actions around the world, particularly in Palestine and the Mediterranean. She leads the Italian section of the anti-war organisation Women in Black.

Greek subtitling of the films and live translation of the debate will be provided.

The films

Taqi (2021, 35') by Aleen Shoufani

The film deals with the story of Taqi Sabateen, a well-known Palestinian graffiti artist from the West Bank of Jordan, who expresses his frustration with the occupation, checkpoints, the separation wall, and uses his art and personal life stories as a tool of resistance.


Aleen Shoufani is a filmmaker born in Haifa. She studied film and television at Tel Aviv University (2019-2020). She worked as a nurse. She participated in several productions as a student. Her first film, the documentary short "Taqi", was made during her university film studies at her own expense and was awarded at the Stockholm Film Festival, Boden International Film Festival, Vienna Films Awards, Prisma Film in Rome, Tagore International Film Festival and Naples Film Awards.

"Son Of The Streets" (2020, 34') by Mohammed Almughanni

Khodor is a 13-year-old boy whose family is trying to issue him with an identity document that proves his existence and entitles him to education, healthcare and movement outside the Palestinian refugee camp of Shatila in Beirut, Lebanon. During the process, many of the family's old secrets are revealed.


Director, writer and filmmaker Mohammed Almughanni was born in 1994 in Gaza. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in film directing at the Łódź Film School in Poland, where he produced Son of the Streets. In recent years, he has shot films in various parts of the world, including Cuba, Palestine, Denmark, China, Jordan, Lebanon, Poland and Germany. He is a documentary and narrative filmmaker, including "Blacklisted" (2021), "Son Of The Streets" (2020), "Falafala" (2019), "Operation" (2018), "Where's the Donkey" (2018), "Shujayya" (2015), and "Halawan" (2012). His films have been selected and awarded at numerous film festivals around the world.

"Inside the Battle for Jerusalem" (2021, 20') by Vice News

Documentary on the ground by Palestinian photographer Ayman Abu Ramuz and South African photographer Dan Bitman for Vice News in occupied East Jerusalem.

Vice follows Palestinians in danger of being evicted from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in order to give them to settlers. Correspondent Hind Hassan talks to residents who are resorting to legal action and protesting while facing attacks by Israeli occupation forces, arrests, house searches, beatings and attempts to occupy by settlers.


Inside the Battle for Jerusalem won two EMMY awards (Best Cinematography and Best News Coverage).
